Book Review -A Court of Mist and Fury

A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2)A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Do you remember how I was thoroughly annoyed with the first book in this series? You’re not the only one shocked by this rating, I assure you.

I had this long debate with myself about how high to rate ACoMAF. I still am debating it, and there’s no telling, I might change my mind in the future. This is sort of how it goes:

Book Review – The Girl on the Train

The Girl on the TrainThe Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

So, for my first review as a member of the MacHalo group, and the associated reading challenge, I’m doing a book that was made into a movie or TV show. The Girl on the Train has a film coming out this year starring Emily Blunt, so I think it counts.

This time the book gets an Honest Movie Trailers style review because it is an over-hyped boring story. I love antagonizing the public (evil grin).

Shallow Reader Post – Flashpoint

12321501

In case you were wondering…it’s not as awesome as it seems.

Greetings, friends, Romans and devoted readers. Lend me your valuable time for a new blog post on a terrible comic book – Flashpoint featuring Wonder Woman. Admittedly my creative skills are at a low right now, but you might read the review anyway, out of sympathy for me? An excerpt:

The futility of this book is beyond belief. I came into this with the bare bones of the story, having already seen the movie and I have to say – the movie is infinitely better.

See it here at the other blog. A couple of other things: yesterday was the anniversary of this blog so I got hyped up and decided February should be unicorn month. Hence the strange banner. I’m also considering doing some new things this year, but have no idea what it should be. I will probably post something discussing this soon, but in the meantime, if you have any suggestions, I’d be happy to read them in the comments below. Happy unicorning!

Book Review – A Darker Shade of Magic

A Darker Shade of Magic (A Darker Shade of Magic, #1)A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Okay, that wasn’t the exciting adventure I hoped it would be. I am not too disappointed, but this book was sorely lacking in punch, which is a bit sad after hearing everyone say good things about it.
I will never trust you guys again! *shakes fist* Just kidding.

I also have lots of conflicting thoughts about this, so you are going to be treated to an unsolicited view of the dialogue between me and myself.
Just be glad there’s only two of us today.

Book Review – The Thinking Woman’s Guide to Real Magic

The Thinking Woman's Guide to Real MagicThe Thinking Woman’s Guide to Real Magic by Emily Croy Barker

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Warning: mild spoilers.

First off, I bought this book when I was in the store and the cover caught my eye. The blurb sounded interesting and I read a few pages. All in all, not bad. Soon after, I ended up travelling for 3 days left and right. I get cranky when I do that and lots of things were frustrating me, so this book was supposed to be my solace. Even when it slowed down unbearably in the middle, I was invested enough to continue.
Then the ending happened. I snapped.  Continue reading
